The “Golden Helmet” is the name of a large number of trophies exposed, and still being exposed on tracks all over the world, either by individual races or race series over a period of time. The custom of exposing golden helmets occurred around 1926-27 in Australia and went from there to England and beyond.
the Helmet style reflect the current models of the times crash helmets. The vast majority were of “chamber pot” model, but later came pilot helmet and full face helmets.
The helmets consists of a metal shell with a gold or silver plated surface and an inner leather helmet with chin straps. They are clearly not intended to be used but as souvenirs and exhibition.
Most are attached sponsor logo on, like with wings to illustrate speed. A list of Danish riders who had won golden helmets seen below.
Of these, only nine helmets are won a Danish track. The rest are taken home from abroad.
